Red Sox, Rays ‘Actively Pushing’ To Trade For Three-Time All-Star, Insider Says

The Boston Red Sox may not have made an enormous splash trade yet this offseason, but it sounds like they’re trying

According to MLB insider Francys Romero, the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are both “actively pushing” to acquire Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte right now.

Marte delivered a solid performance in the 2025 MLB season for the Diamondbacks, batting .283 with 28 home runs and 72 RBI across 126 games. His ever-lethal bat and defensive reliability at second base marked another consistent year, placing him 22nd in NL MVP voting.

Marte also earned his third All-Star selection, claimed the National League Silver Slugger Award at second base, and secured a spot on the All-MLB First Team in 2025. Despite his efforts, the Diamondbacks finished 80-82 and missed the playoffs.

Over his 11-year MLB career, starting with the Seattle Mariners in 2015 before joining Arizona in 2017, Marte has compiled a .281 average, 171 home runs, and 587 RBI in 1,230 games.

His versatility across infield and outfield positions has been key, with standout moments like earning NLCS MVP in 2023 during the Diamondbacks’ World Series run and back-to-back All-Star nods in 2024-25. At 32, Marte has established himself as a legit superstar, and he’d provide the Red Sox with a huge injection of talent if they ended up landing him via trade.
