The New England Patriots are likely still fired up from their big Week 16 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. For the front office, though, it was back to business, and that led to a roster move being made less than 24 hours after this big win.
The Patriots were staring down the barrel at an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but they scored 15 unanswered points to end the game. It was a thrilling contest, and it helped New England strengthen its postseason position with two regular-season contests left.
One guy who won’t be contributing on the field for the Pats anytime soon, though, is practice squad tight end Thomas Odukoya. That’s because he ended up getting placed on the practice squad injured reserve, which will likely end his 2025 campaign prematurely.
“Patriots place TE Thomas Odukoya on practice squad injured reserve list,” the team announced in a post on X.
Odukoya went undrafted back in 2022 and ended up spending the first three seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans. After he got waived earlier this season, Odukoya latched on with the Patriots’ practice squad, which is where he has spent the past two months.

Chances are, Odukoya wasn’t going to feature for New England this season, unless something went seriously wrong at the tight end position. However, the team has lost a layer of depth at the tight end position, which could lead them to look for a replacement now that Odukoya is on injured reserve.
