Boston Red Sox fans perked up in November when news surfaced that Kristian Campbell would be playing winter ball in Puerto Rico. It would be an opportunity for fans to get a peek at Campbell’s ongoing development.
Early photos and footage from Puerto Rico showed that Campbell had adjusted his swing mechanics, and now we have a full sample size of games to look at, statistically-speaking, at least.
As of December 24, Campbell has wrapped up his winter ball stint in Puerto Rico. Tyler Milliken of 98.5 The Sports Hub documented Campbell’s stats from 14 games played in an informative post on Wednesday.
Campbell’s 2025 season with the Red Sox began with high expectations following his March 27 debut. He reached base in his first 17 games, the second-longest such streak to start a career in team history, and slashed .287/.388/.460 with four home runs and 12 RBIs through April. A slump followed, with a .154/.249/.222 line in May and June, defensive struggles (including -8 Outs Above Average), and a demotion to Triple-A Worcester on June 19. Overall, Campbell batted .223/.319/.345 with six home runs, 21 RBIs, 24 runs scored, and a 27.4% strikeout rate over 229 at-bats.

During his initial MLB breakout, on April 2, Campbell signed an eight-year, $60 million extension through 2032, with club options for 2033 and 2034.
Campbell’s career started when the Red Sox drafted him in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft out Georgia Tech. In 2023, he hit .309 in 22 games between rookie ball and High-A. He broke out in 2024, slashing .330/.439/.558 across three minor league levels with 20 home runs, 77 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases, earning multiple Minor League Player of the Year awards.
Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow has recently indicated that Campbell figures to be an outfielder at the big-league level in the future.
