The Boston Red Sox aren’t done looking for offense this offseason.
Boston will keep pursuing another infielder after acquiring first baseman Willson Contreras, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. Speier identified four “primary targets” on the diamond.
The Red Sox are pursuing free agents Alex Bregman and Bo Bichette while exploring another possible trade for Ketel Marte or Isaac Paredes.
A Bregman reunion remains feasible, but the third baseman will likely require a longer-term investment than the three-year deal — with an opt-out he exercised — this time around. The three-time All-Star quickly established himself as a locker room leader while batting .273/.360/.462 with Boston last season.
Bichette represents another top infielder on the open market. He shook off a down 2024 to bat .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs for the Toronto Blue Jays, returning from a knee injury to notch a .923 OPS in the World Series.

The shortstop may not seem like the smoothest fit for Boston, but MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that Bichette has told teams he’s willing to move to second base.
Marte gives Boston another high-end target at the keystone position. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that the Red Sox were backing away from the Arizona Diamondbacks star after acquiring Contreras, but perhaps they’re still eyeing the two-time Silver Slugger.
Paredes earned his second All-Star nod and batted .254/.352/.458 with 20 home runs in 102 games last season. The 26-year-old offers a potential third-base pivot from Bregman if the Houston Astros are willing to trade him for the third time in as many years.
