There was Drew Bledsoe. There was Tom Brady. And now there is Drake Maye.

As if Maye hadn’t already made clear that he’s the third elite franchise quarterback in New England Patriots history, another milestone on Sunday confirmed it. During the first half of the Pats’ Week 17 battle against the New York Jets, Maye crossed the 4,000 passing yard mark when he completed a 30-yard pass to Efton Chism III.

In doing so, Drake became just the third player in Patriots history with 4,000 passing yards in a single season, joining Bledsoe and Brady.

The Maye-Chism 30-yard connection was also special in that it was Chism’s first NFL catch.

Maye entered Week 17 with very impressive stats on the season: 3,947 passing yards (4th in the NFL), 25 touchdown passes (tied for 6th), eight interceptions (tied for 20th), and a 73.3 quarterback rating (1st).

Most impressive of all, the Patriots were 12-3 entering Sunday, placing them in first position in the AFC East. New England has yet to lose on the road this season.

In the first half against the Jets, Maye was 17-of-19 for 229 yards, four touchdown passes, and zero interceptions. It’s safe to say that Maye’s stats are going to look a bit better after this week!
