Drake Maye has built a legitimate MVP case for himself, and if Mike Vrabel had a vote, he’d be giving it to his quarterback.

Maye had another dazzling display Sunday, putting up five passing touchdowns on 19-of-21 passing for 256 yards as the Patriots throttled the Jets, 42-10, at MetLife Stadium. With the Buffalo Bills losing later in the day, the win secures the AFC East crown for the Patriots.

Although Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is the favorite for MVP, Maye is not far behind and ranks highest of any AFC player.

Vrabel was asked after the win if he feels Maye is the league MVP.

“Oh, well, I certainly — they don’t give me a vote, but I would. There’s nobody else that we want as our quarterback or that I want as our quarterback,” Vrabel said, via a team-provided transcript. “And so to be able to do that, and as the plays go through to progression, somebody asked me this week about progression and different things, I said, ‘Just throw to the guy that’s open as soon as you work through your progression,’ and I think he did that. Some really good designs, but also some great execution.”

Maye has been central to the Patriots’ turnaround. Regardless of accolades this season, he and Vrabel are playing substantial roles in putting the Patriots on a trajectory for sustained success.
