There have been a lot of reasons for the New England Patriots’ stunning success this year, including the rise of Drake Maye. Maye has emerged as an MVP candidate in his second season while putting up historic numbers, giving the Patriots one of the league’s best passing attacks.
New England has also had success on the ground despite some weaknesses on the offensive line. After routing the New York Jets on Sunday, the Patriots rank eighth in rushing attempts, ninth in rushing touchdowns and 13th in rushing yards.
Much of that production has come from TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, who’ve teamed up to form one of the NFL’s top backfields.
After operating as New England’s primary running back for several seasons, Stevenson has ceded much of his work to Henderson, who’s broken out with an amazing rookie season.
While the two have split carries this season and shared some work with Antonio Gibson as well, offensive lineman Morgan Moses has been impressed by their selflessness and team-first attitude.

“I think the biggest thing is that none of those guys (expletive) and complain about, ‘I’m not getting my touches. I’m not getting this.’ They just strap up and go out there, and play when they know when their number’s called,” Moses said after Sunday’s win.
Both backs have played an integral role in the Patriots’ offense this year. Henderson leads the team in rushing attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, while Stevenson has 102 more receiving yards than him.
Both were at the forefront of New England’s attack on Sunday, too. Henderson led the rushing attack with 82 yards on 19 carries, while Stevenson turned 13 touches into 102 total yards and two touchdowns.

They’ve been helping each other stay fresh all season while taking some of the pressure off Maye, so they’ll try to keep it up against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and throughout the postseason.
