The Celtics secured a 129-119 victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night, with much of Boston’s success stemming from the stellar defensive play of its stars.

Guard Anfernee Simons scored 20 points and showcased impressive effort on defense, which earned him praise from head coach Joe Mazzulla for his contributions.

“When we get that version of him, it makes us a different team,” Mazzulla said on Tuesday.

Simons wasn’t the only Celtics star to have a tremendous defensive performance. Guard Derrick White recorded seven blocks, which put him at the top of the NBA history books.

White is now the fifth guard in an NBA game to record seven blocks, tying him with Doug Christie, Tracy McGrady, Dennis Johnson and George Gervin.

If Simons and White can keep up their strong defensive play, then the Celtics are going to be a tough team to beat for the remainder of the season.

With Jayson Tatum potentially returning sometime this season, the Celtics could emerge as the favorite to come out of the Eastern Conference, especially considering the stellar performances from players like Simons, White and Jaylen Brown.
