It’s not often Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez is among the responsible parties on a botched coverage, but it was the case when Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers hit Malik Washington for a second-quarter touchdown at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

And FOX broadcasters Joe Davis and Greg Olsen did their job and called out Gonzalez after the busted coverage, which led to a two-yard score. They did so while making reference to the well-known “Madden” video game.

Davis: “People were making the Madden comparison with Drake Maye’s game against the Jets. That looked like Madden when you decide to be the corner and you get (lost) and no chance.”

Olsen: “You just ask yourself, ‘Why didn’t I let the computer just do it?’”

Davis: “Right? Getting too cute.”

The touchdown from Ewers to Washington cut New England’s lead to 14-7 with 10:14 left in the second quarter. It capped a 10-play, 65-yard possession for the ‘Fins, who put together a 12-play drive on their opening possession.

On the play, Miami’s pre-snap motion seemed to cause safety Craig Woodson and Gonzalez to have their eyes in the backfield before the botched coverage. Gonzalez was the closest defender to Washington, who made the easy reception.
