Red Sox fans continue to be given reason to hope for Alex Bregman’s return.
The star infielder remains a free agent with spring training a little over a month away. ESPN’s Buster Olney recently reported that Boston made an “aggressive” offer to re-sign Bregman, who has multiple suitors.
Another positive update arrived Monday via USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale.
“The Boston Red Sox … remain the favorite for Bregman,” Nightengale wrote before doubling down. ” … The Red Sox are the favorites to bring back Bregman.”
Nightengale also reported that the Toronto Blue Jays remain “engaged” in talks with Bregman and star shortstop Bo Bichette, who also is on Boston’s radar.

Bregman signed a multi-year deal with the Red Sox last offseason but opted out this winter. He was a force when healthy in 2025, hitting .273 with 18 homers and 62 RBIs in 433 at-bats while playing stellar defense at third base and emerging as a clubhouse leader.
Bregman will turn 32 on March 30. As such, this might be his last chance at a major contract, increasing the chances of him going to the highest bidder. Whether the Red Sox will pay his pricetag remains to be seen.
