The Boston Celtics have found themselves in a bit of a cold streak as of late, as they have lost three of their past four games. Despite that, they are still one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, with the expectation being that they will operate as buyers at the upcoming trade deadline.
While the C’s have exceeded expectations to this point, it’s tough to ignore the fact that they need help at several different spots on their roster. Easily their most pressing need is another big man to fill out their rotation alongside Neemias Queta and Luka Garza.
There are set to be several options available for the Celtics in this department over the coming weeks. On Tuesday, a major development was reported that will surely catch Boston’s attention, as the Dallas Mavericks appear to be open to trading away injured big man Anthony Davis.
“Fascinating development: The Mavericks are having renewed Davis trade talks with multiple interested teams, sources said,” Shams Charania of ESPN reported. “If moved to a playoff contender, the return timeline could allow Davis to return during the postseason while establishing himself for the long-term elsewhere.”
Davis is set to undergo surgery on a left-hand injury that will sideline him for the majority of the season, but should he get traded to a playoff contender, that return timeline could be expedited. When healthy, Davis is still one of the best all-around players in the league, as he is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game this year.

The Celtics have been interested in Davis for years, and he suddenly could emerge as an enticing trade target for the team. It’s more likely that the team will pursue a less expensive player, but Davis’ addition to the trade block has added another wrinkle to Boston’s upcoming deadline plans.
