The Boston Red Sox have signed 26-year-old right-handed relief pitcher Patrick Halligan to a minor league contract, Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com reported on Tuesday.

Halligan is a 2021 13th-round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals.

He spent two years in the Royals farm, highlighted by a 2022 AAA appearance with the Omaha Storm Chasers.

His next two seasons were spent in the Atlanta Braves farm system, bouncing mostly between AA and AAA appearances. He threw 45.1 innings and allowed 13 earned runs for the AA Mississippi Braves.

Last season was his fifth year in the minors. Now with the Houston Astros, he once again spent the majority of his time pitching for the AA team in Corpus Christi.

He allowed 20 earned runs in 51.2 innings pitched. He struck out 62 batters and walked 21, posting a 3.48 ERA and 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

At 230 pounds, Halligan is not a hardball thrower. He generates strikeouts with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, working with a slider and a splitter.
