Former Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier has been in the NBA headlines this season for all the wrong reasons, and his current team the Miami Heat have been trying to find a trade for him forever. Not surprisingly, ESPN’s Bobby Marks identified Rozier this week as Miami’s “player to watch” before the February 5 deadline.

“Rozier was placed on immediate leave Oct. 23 after he was indicted with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, charges to which he pleaded not guilty in December,” Marks wrote.

“Sources told ESPN in December it was unclear what would happen if the Heat attempted to trade Rozier’s $26.6 million expiring contract before the deadline. Notably, the Heat elected not to waive Rozier before the Jan. 7 guaranteed date, a move that would have saved Miami $1.7 million in salary relief and opened a roster spot.”

After participating in just one regular-season game for the Heat this year, Rozier was placed on indefinite unpaid leave by the league in October 2025 amid an FBI investigation into alleged sports gambling fraud involving player props from earlier years. The Heat opted not to waive him, preserving his expiring contract as a potential trade asset despite the uncertainty.

Over his 11-year career, Rozier has evolved from a bench spark to a reliable scoring guard. Drafted 16th overall by the Celtics in 2015 out of Louisville, he contributed to deep playoff runs, including a breakout 2018 postseason performance.

Traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 2019, he averaged over 20 points per game in multiple seasons, showcasing his quickness and shot-making. Acquired by Miami in January 2024, he provided secondary playmaking before a disappointing 2024-25 campaign where he posted 10.6 points per game.

Rozier’s career averages stand at 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists across 665 games.
