With the Buffalo Bills firing head coach Sean McDermott on Monday, plenty of NFL writers, fans, and analysts have lent their opinion about who Buffalo should turn to next.
The Athletic’s Diana Russini floated Buffalo native Brian Daboll as a possible McDermott replacement on Monday.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox discussed multiple possibilites, but ultimately landed on Klint Kubiak has his choice for the Bills’ ‘best option’ heading into 2026.
“In an effort to get the most out of (Josh) Allen and to build a championship-caliber offense, Buffalo will likely focus on offensive candidates this cycle,” Knox wrote. “Defensive coaches like Brian Flores and Jesse Minter may get some consideration, but offensive coaches like Mike McDaniel, Klint Kubiak, and former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll would make the most sense. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady—who had an interview with the Ravens on Sunday—could be an internal option.”
“Former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy looms as a more experienced candidate—one with a Lombardi Trophy on his resume—but if the Bills want an up-and-coming, long-term replacement, Kubiak would be the best option for Buffalo,” Knox affirmed.

“The 38-year-old has no prior head-coaching experience, but he’s a creative play-caller who has had Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold looking like an MVP candidate at points this season. … Kubiak has the creative mind needed to put an effective offensive system around Allen, and after working with five franchises over the past five years, he should have the connections needed to assemble a quality staff.”
Kubiak began his coaching journey in college at Texas A&M, serving as an offensive quality control coach from 2010 to 2011 and graduate assistant in 2012. He entered the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013 as an offensive quality control coach, holding that role through 2014. In 2015, he coached wide receivers at Kansas before returning to the pros as an offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos from 2016 to 2018.
Kubiak rejoined the Vikings in 2019 as quarterbacks coach, advancing to offensive coordinator in 2021. He then served as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Broncos in 2022, followed by passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
