Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox have made another trade.
Boston acquired catching prospect Nate Baez from the Twins and sent utilityman Tristan Gray to Minnesota, as first reported by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo on Wednesday morning. The Red Sox acquired Gray from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this offseason.
The 24-year-old Baez, who was not ranked among Baseball America’s Top-30 prospects in the Twins organization, played 51 games in Double-A Wichita last season. During the 2025 campaign, in which Baez represented High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita, he hit .278 with eight homers, 54 RBIs and recorded a .794 OPS. He compiled a .331 average in 45 High-A games before he was promoted.

A product of Arizona State, Baez was selected in the 12th round (No. 354) of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Last season, he split time between catcher (368-plus innings) and first base (367-plus innings) and also started nine games as a designated hitter. Over the course of his four-year tenure in the minors, however, he’s primarily played catcher (932-plus innings) and first base (684-plus innings).
