Former Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito is still available in free agency, and Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter seems to think Giolito will land with the Atlanta Braves.

On Monday, Reuter predicted the Braves’ Opening Day rotation, and he pencilled in Giolito as Atlanta’s No. 4 starter. Reuter’s full vision for the rotation was, in order, Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, Giolito, and Hurston Waldrep. He also noted that AJ Smith-Shawver will begin the season on the Injured List for the Braves.

“The Braves have recently been linked to veteran starters Lucas Giolito and Chris Bassitt, and both would provide a workhorse veteran presence to a staff that has its fair share of injury concerns and unproven young arms,” Reuter wrote. “Something in the two-year, $40 million range might get a deal done for either option.”

Giolito delivered a solid rebound performance in 2025 with the Red Sox, his first full season back after missing 2024 due to elbow surgery. The veteran right-hander made 26 starts, compiling a 10-4 record with a 3.41 ERA over 145 innings pitched. He allowed 131 hits and 17 home runs while issuing 56 walks and recording 121 strikeouts, resulting in a 1.29 WHIP.

After a challenging early stretch that included some rough outings, Giolito settled in effectively from mid-June onward. His improved command and ability to limit damage contributed to the Red Sox’ push toward the postseason.

A late-season elbow issue sidelined him for the playoffs, though evaluations indicated no structural damage and only rest was needed. By early offseason reports in late 2025 and into 2026, Giolito confirmed full recovery, having started his throwing program in mid-October with no lingering concerns.

Overall, the campaign marked a successful return to form for the 31-year-old, blending durability with quality results in a rotation role that proved vital for Boston’s late-season surge.
