New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will not need surgery this offseason.
“Time is the best healer. Just need time off,” Maye said during his end-of-season media availability on Tuesday, as shared by Mike Kadlick of CLNS. “Nothing that needs anything to be done … Just need time to rest and time away from football.”
Maye, 23, admitted the shoulder injury that kept him on the injury report throughout the majority of the two weeks between the AFC Championship and Super Bowl LX was suffered when he was driven into the ground during the former.
Maye was mostly limited in practice, though his injury combined with an illness did keep him out of the club’s final practice before traveling out to Santa Clara, Calif. before its loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Maye played poorly in that game, finishing 27-of-43 for 295 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and one costly fumble — admitting after the fact that he received a pain-killing injection in order to get through the contest.

“I know I didn’t play as well as I would have liked down the stretch, and promise to do my best to work hard and get us back to those moments, Maye said, per team reporter Paul Perillo.”
The Patriots will depart for their spring break on Wednesday, with the offseason program scheduled to pick back up in May.
