Post-NFL Week 7: Five Teams Whose Stocks Are Down

NFL Week 7 was easily the most unpredictable slate of games we had all season, and there is plenty of negativity. These five teams, in particular, stood out the most for all the wrong reasons.

  • Detroit Lions

I can’t believe I thought the Detroit Lions could give either the Philadelphia Eagles or San Francisco 49ers a run for their money in the playoffs. Man, I was wrong. What an embarrassing effort they put together against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. I don’t want to hear about injuries, especially regarding David Montgomery’s absence, because the Lions took a running back with the 12th overall pick in Jahmyr Gibbs, who seemed to be the only guy who showed up on Sunday. Upcoming games against the Raiders, Chargers, and Bears should help Detroit get back to winning, but this team doesn’t belong in any discussion with the Eagles or 49ers.

  • Miami Dolphins

I’m already hearing excuses for why the Miami Dolphins lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, and I don’t quite understand it. Yes, the Dolphins are dealing with injuries, and there were a few unusual drops in crucial moments that likely won’t happen again. Still, the Philadelphia Eagles beat down the Dolphins physically. Miami had no answer for the Eagles in the trenches, and Jalen Hurts outplayed Tua Tagovailoa at the end of the day. Miami now has two losses to teams with winning records, as their five victories came against teams who combine for just eight wins on the season. They can score all the points they want but still lack a signature win.

  • Las Vegas Raiders

No one had heard of Sheppard University before Sunday. They have now, as undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent led the Chicago Bears to a dominant 30-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Bagent played Division II, giving Vegas an ugly wake-up call that things aren’t working out. Trade Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, and whoever else has value, and rebuild this thing correctly.

  • Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills can beat anyone in football but also lose to anyone in football. The New England Patriots were on the edge of quitting leading into Sunday after three straight embarrassing losses. Yet, Buffalo rejuvenated their season that didn’t deserve an extra life. Mac Jones may have had his best professional outing with his game-winning drive to cap it off, and Buffalo had no answer. Josh Allen continually finds a new way to create turnovers, and it feels like we will always be doing this thing with him and the Bills. They dominate one week but collapse the next.

  • Green Bay Packers

How do the Green Bay Packers commit to Jordan Love as their franchise quarterback after this season? If it weren’t for facing a putrid Chicago Bears club in Week 1 and Derek Carr getting hurt in Week 3, the Packers would be sitting 0-6. Is Love a fine game manager? Maybe, but nothing about his game screams that he can be a difference-maker when the lights are brightest. Despite the Packers only being a slight favorite on the road against the Denver Broncos, that was a game the Packers needed to win. The Broncos locker room quit, allowing Love and the Packers to put the nail in their coffin and spark their season back to life, and it couldn’t have gone any worse.
