It's hard to question the All-Fenway Team, which was announced this week prior to the Red Sox' home finale. With so many legends having donned a Boston uniform, picking and choosing which players were worthy of the honor was a difficult job, and fans did an excellent job with their selections.
However, Manny Ramirez is one guy whose omission was somewhat surprising.
Ramirez often became known for all the "extra stuff" over the years. His zany humor and random ways often overshadowed what was truly important — his production.
Ramirez spent parts of eight seasons with the Red Sox, earning an All-Star selection every year and winning two World Series titles. His Boston career consisted of a .312 average, 274 home runs and 868 RBIs in 1,083 games, and he was consistently among the game's premier hitters, yet Ramirez didn't find his way onto the legendary All-Fenway squad.
Ramirez's omission was one of the topics that NESN.com MLB writer Didier Morais dove into with assistant editor Ricky Doyle this week, but it was hardly the only topic. The two also discussed the futures of David Ortiz and Cody Ross, Craig Breslow's love for numbers, the AL MVP race and the rumor linking Terry Francona to the Indians.
