Rice, a career .298 hitter, his 382 home runs and drove in 1,451 runs over 16 seasons with the Red Sox. An eight-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger, Rice’s best season came in 1978 when he was named MVP of the American League.
In 1978, Rice belted 46 home runs and recorded 139 RBIs while hitting .315 for the Red Sox. That season he led the league in plate appearances, at-bats, hits, triples, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases in what is regarded as one of the best offensive seasons in baseball history.
