Big Baby's days in Boston aren't over just yet. The Celtics have announced the signing of restricted free agent forward Glen Davis to a two-year deal on Monday.
“Glen has been a big part of our success for the past two years and we are very excited to have him back,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations.
After filling in for the shorthanded Celtics in the postseason, Davis tested the free-agent waters this offseason, but in tough economic times, Big Baby couldn't find a proper suitor and opted to return to the C's, the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft out of LSU. New Jersey, Detroit and New Orleans were among those teams interested in the 6-foot-9, 289-pound 23-year-old.
Davis averaged 15.8 points per game in the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs this spring, filling in for the injured Kevin Garnett. Davis will be rejoining a revamped Celtics front court that welcomed aboard Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams this summer. Boston has also been working out a sign-and-trade deal to bring Pacers forward Marquis Daniels to the Hub, but it's likely that the C's will be stuck signing him to the biannual exception as Indiana appears to be dissatisfied with what Boston had to offer.
In 145 career games, Davis has averaged 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. According to a report in the Boston Herald, the deal will be worth approximately $6.3 million over two seasons.
