Rex Ryan Leaves Open the Possibility of Mark Sanchez As Starter As anticipated, veteran quarterback Kellen Clemens will start over rookie Mark Sanchez in the Jets’ first preseason game against the St. Louis Rams on Friday.

But it was Sanchez’s name that head coach Rex Ryan mentioned first on Tuesday.

"[Sanchez] looked like a million dollars out there,” Ryan told the New York Post. “And Kellen looked good, too.''

Though Ryan said Clemens will start, he also noted that Sanchez will see action Friday with the offensive starters.

"Sanchez will get work with the ones as well, but when exactly that will be and for how long is not determined,'' Ryan told the Post.

He mentioned no front-runner in terms of who will be the team’s regular-season opening day starter, when the Jets take on the Texans in Houston on Sept. 13.
