Does Robinson Cano deserve a Gold Glove?
Yankees manager Joe Girardi certainly thinks he does.
"I look at Robbie and he has had a great year offensively," Girardi told The New York Post. "I think he has had a Gold Glove second-base year as well. The plays he has made, whether to his left or right, turning double plays and fly balls he has caught running down the line. It's important because I consider Robbie to be a great player."
Not only is Cano a great player, but he's a great player having one of the best years of his young career: He is currently hitting .321 with 24 homers — the most he has hit in five years in the majors — and 80 RBIs. His opposite-field solo shot put the Yankees on the board in Saturday's 3-0 win over Boston.
In 154 games, Cano has made 11 errors, good for a .985 fielding percentage.
Last year, managers awarded the Gold Glove to Dustin Pedroia. But this year, the cards could fall in Cano's favor. He hopes so.
"It would mean a lot," Cano told the Post. "A lot of players play in the big leagues for a long time and don't get a Gold Glove."
