Tom Brady: 'We Don't Make the Rules' The center of much debate over the past few days has been Tom Brady and the pair of roughing the passer penalties called on defenders getting near him in Sunday's Patriots win over the Ravens.

What was often lost in the argument of "Brady's gone soft" or "Brady's a whiner" was the fact that Brady wasn't the one with the whistle.

The quarterback reiterated that point on Wednesday.

"Whatever they call, they call," he said at his news conference. "We don’t make the rules. We just play by them. I think we were on the fortunate end of a few of them this last week. Other times, we haven’t been. In the end, they all probably even out."

Brady took some heat (some of it feigned from a former teammate) for lobbying to the referee for the call, but Brady said he was only trying to help the team.

"I want the penalty called. I want 15 yards. I don’t care if they hit me or not," Brady said. "That’s an advantage for our offense. You just want to make sure the refs … I go hug the refs before the game, and ask about his kids and stuff like that. I’m trying to get him on our side," he added with a smile.

The quarterback couldn't get his top target on his side, however, explaining that his weekly meeting with the media had to be moved to the press room from his locker because Randy Moss — Brady's locker neighbor — has "had enough of all the people at his locker."
