Devils Fend Off Bruins in Matinee Shootout Win Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask went toe-to-toe with a future Hall of Famer, but the Black and Gold were unable to cap off a spirited comeback at the Garden on Black Friday.

After Martin Brodeur and the Devils dominated the Bruins through the first two periods, the Bruins woke up with a quick tally early in the third frame to eventually earn one point in the shootout loss.

In an epic goalie battle between the future ace netminder of the Bruins and a future Hall of Famer, Brodeur came out on top as the 37-year-old veteran of 17 seasons nipped the B's for New Jersey's second road win over the Bruins this season.

Headliner: Brodeur grabbed 32 saves for his 14th win of the season and 571st of his successful career. The longtime Devils backstop grabbed 11 saves in the final period — including a big stop of Marc Savard with just a few ticks remaining — before stoning Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in shootout attempts to pick up the two points.

During a stoppage of play with just under 17 minutes to go in the second period, it was announced that Brodeur surpassed yet another NHL goalie record. Brodeur passed Patrick Roy for most all-time minutes between the pipes as the Devils' keeper now has 60,280 to Roy's 60,235.

Grinder: Tuukka Rask kicked aside 36 shots including 15 in the second period and three in overtime to keep the B's within striking distance.

Weak Link: The Bruins went 0-for-4 on power plays and committed four penalties of their own in the first two periods to keep the offense from getting into a rhythm.

Krejci, who was stoned by Brodeur in the shootout, was a second too late getting a body on Devils’ forward Zach Parise as he hacked through Rask's left pad for his 14th of the season to give the Devils a 1-0 lead in the first.

Key Moment:
Blake Wheeler took a perfect feed from Byron Bitz just 12 seconds into the final frame to tie things up at one apiece. The B’s dumped it in off the faceoff before getting a couple of lucky bounces that led right to Bitz who saw Wheeler camped out on the far post.

What’s Next: The B’s won’t have much time to shake off any dings from the Devils game as the Bruins host the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night at the TD Garden.

Ottawa and Boston are now tied for first place in the Northeast Division with 29 points apiece. With a 13-7-3 record, the Senators have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 and own four wins in their last five games.

Milan Michalek is leading the way on offense with 11 goals while Daniel Alfredsson has chipped in with 15 helpers. Pascal Leclaire owns eight wins while Brian Elliot stands in with a 2.57 GAA for the conference’s third-place squad.
