White Sox Part Ways With Jermaine Dye, Trade For Mark Teahen It's been a busy Friday for the White Sox. Just a couple of days into the offseason, they are down one former World Series MVP and up one very capable third baseman.

After 35-year-old Jermaine Dye informed the team he would accept his player option for 2010 that would pay him $12 million, the team bought him out for $950,000, according to ESPN.com.

While this doesn't mean the White Sox cannot re-sign Dye to a new deal, things aren't looking good for the city of Chicago and the aging outfielder/DH who hit .250 last season with 27 homers and 81 RBIs in 2009.

Dye played with the White Sox for five years and was named World Series MVP after they took home the title in 2005.

The same day, Chicago traded second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to Kansas City in exchange for Mark Teahen. Teahan will likely be the everyday third baseman while Gordon Beckham, last year's rookie standout, will move to second.

Teahen can also play the outfield — perhaps replacing Dye — but he told ESPN.com he'd be more comfortable at third.

"I can handle the outfield and play there," he said, "but third base is my No. 1 position."

The 28-year-old hit .271 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs in 2009. His best season came in his sophomore campaign, when he hit .290 with 18 homers and 69 RBIs.
