Rex Ryan Regrets War of Words With Channing Crowder Jets head coach Rex Ryan has never been afraid to say what's on his mind. We’re just not used to hearing him admit when he’s wrong.

In an interview with the NFL Network, Ryan says his only regret this season was his back-and-forth with Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder, the New York Post reports.

Ryan and Crowder got into a war of words prior to the start of the season. It’s debatable who won the Ryan-Crowder matchup, but there’s no question who won the matchup between the Jets and Dolphins this season. Crowder's Dolphins beat Ryan's Jets twice in the regular season.

The Ryan-Crowder situation quickly spiraled out of control with the rookie Jets coach saying: "I've walked over tougher guys going to a fight than Channing Crowder. Trust me, he can send himself and his father after me. It's fun to get with it and spar with someone else.”

Ryan learned from the experience.

"Maybe I shouldn't have said that about that kid," Ryan told the NFL Network. "But you know me, I like to have fun with opposing players as well, and they always take shots at me. I thought it was just a playful thing, but I think it got kinda blown out of proportion."

Ryan has taken the last week to reflect on the Jets' season following the team’s loss to the Colts in the AFC Championship Game. He says his verbal battle with Crowder was his only regret this season.

"But other than that, I’ve got no regrets," Ryan told the NFL Network. "I'll stand by everything. I think our football team is, you’re either gonna love them or you’re gonna hate them, but you're gonna respect us, and I think that’s important."

The Jets will face many new challenges next season, including Super Bowl aspirations from fans and media. The Jets' head coach is ready to build on the team’s success.

"You know, a lot of times you get that close, a lot of times you have to take a step back," Ryan told the NFL Network. "But our challenge to our players, and to our coaches, is for everybody to find a way to get a little bit better."
