According to JetsConfidential.com, Chad Pennington's desire to start may lead the Dolphins quarterback to sign with the Cardinals or Vikings, but he has not ruled out a return to Miami.
Pennington will have to prove he is fully recovered from an injured throwing shoulder that forced him to miss most of the 2009 season. The 10-year NFL veteran has suffered several injuries in his career, but he could replace Kurt Warner in Arizona or Brett Favre in Minnesota, if Favre decides to retire.
Though Pennington wants to start, he will reportedly accept a backup role if a No. 1 opportunity is not available.
The veteran may choose to return to Miami to back up Chad Henne next season. Pennington would like to return to the Dolphins, even without a starting role in hand, the Miami Herald reports.
When he hits the free-agent market next month, Pennington could draw interest from the Jets, who might see him as a backup option for Mark Sanchez. The team could use a reliable second-string quarterback after Sanchez underwent knee surgery earlier this offseason.
Whatever the case, it's clear that Pennington will have options this offseason, whether in New York, Miami or elsewhere.
