Report: Paul Pierce's Injury More Serious Than a Sprain For everyone hoping that Paul Pierce‘s first-quarter exit from Monday’s win over the Wizards was no big deal — the basketball gods are not on your side.

The Celtics captain underwent X-rays on his left foot on Tuesday and his injury appears to be more serious than the initially diagnosed sprain, according to Boston.com.

The Celtics should make an announcement regarding Pierce’s status on Wednesday, and further tests are expected to be conducted before any information is disclosed.

Pierce went down with about two minutes left in the first period when Washington’s Caron Butler landed on his foot. Pierce returned to action for 17 minutes but was held out of the fourth quarter.
