After missing two straight games with a groin injury, defenseman Andrew Ference was held out of Sunday's practice as the Bruins prepare to take on the Sabres on Monday night.
"[Ference] is still day-to-day," head coach Claude Julien told NESN's Naoko Funayama and the rest of the Boston media on Sunday afternoon from Ristuccia Memorial Arena. "I'm saying day-to-day because his hernia situation is one that nobody seems to know how quickly, or if it's going to be prolonged or not. He's here again today getting treatment and he is day-to-day. That doesn't mean he'll be in tomorrow, we really don’t know. It all depends on how well he progresses here. Right now it's progressing slowly and too slow for us to take a chance."
Ference has missed 23 games this season and signed a three-year contract extension worth $6.75 million last Wednesday.
Also missing was a ruling from the league on whether or not defenseman Johnny Boychuk will be suspended for his high hit on the Flames' Rene Bourque during Saturday's 5-0 win at the TD Garden.
"We haven't heard a thing," he said. "That's the one thing I can tell you, and when you don't hear from the league it's normally a good sign — I hope so anyway. Normally you hear from them sooner than later, and we haven’t heard anything."
