Marc Savard Antsy to Get Back on Ice, But Return Not Urgent Marc Savard
stayed on the ice with the “Black Aces” (the extra players teams carry during the playoffs) after practice Sunday as he keeps building his case to be back in the lineup.

As reported here yesterday though, there hasn’t been much response to Savard’s pleas from head coach Claude Julien and it appears unlikely he would be in the lineup for Game 6. Savard does have to take another neuro-psych test Monday morning and if he passes again, his case would obviously be stronger, but for now it appears No. 91 will be watching from above.

"I don't know what the situation is and we haven't talked much about it,” Savard said of where he and Julien stand on the subject. “Obviously it's not looking good right now, there's nothing much I can do besides working hard and being ready to go. The guys are playing well, so I'm not going to go out there and make a scene to try to get back into the lineup.”

That last reason is exactly what has been told to NESN.com. While the Bruins laid a stinker in Game 5, losing 4-1, they have formed chemistry within the current lineup and that along with the fact that Boston is still up 3-2 in the series lessens the urgency and necessity for Savard to play. Savard realizes that and even though he desperately wants in, he is also thinking team first and cognizant of the chemistry factor.

"Everybody wants to get in the lineup and that's the nature of it. If you asked me if I could play, then the answer would be 'Yeah.' But I'm a team guy. If it's me watching another [playoff game] then that's what it's going to be. If it takes me playing 10 minutes tomorrow or watching for 60, then that’s what it’s got to be. I’d be happy with any way I can help but if it’s watching, that’s what it’s gotta be.”

While his playing status is uncertain, Savard is becoming closer to feeling like his normal playing self.

“I was controlling the puck well out there,” Savard pointed out. “But I felt good with the puck and I did some more contact down low, another step, and we’ll see what happens.”

Julien didn’t have much to say on the subject except to acknowledge that Savard is looking better on the ice.

“He is certainly coming around, no doubt but that is all I can tell you right now because that is all we have,” Julien said. “We have not yet been told by the medical staff that he is has been cleared so there is nothing more we can do besides keep working with him and get him in shape.”
