The Kraft Group announced Wednesday that it is in the process of installing two new high-definition LED video scoreboards at Gillette Stadium that measure a total of 4,500 square feet, five times larger than the old 27-by-48-foot video boards.
The video board in the south end zone will measure 41.5-feet by 164-feet while the board in the north end zone will be a bit smaller at 45-feet by 100-feet. To fill those dimensions with a standard 37-inch” HDTV, you would need a whopping 1,700 televisions.
Not only are the new boards bigger, but they will have a much higher resolution with the ability to display more instant replays and more graphics while including live statistical updates of other sporting events.
"With the size of these boards, along with the vivid color, image clarity and their graphic capabilities, these high-definition video boards come alive," Jonathan Kraft, president of The Kraft Group, said. "The resolution is incredible. This type of video board simply didn’t exist eight years ago when the stadium was built. It is amazing to see how far the video technology has come in the past decade and it’s exciting to anticipate what in-game technological advancements will be made during the next decade."
Daktronics, the company that manufactures the LED boards, has equipment in 29 of 31 NFL venues and plans to install newer display systems for the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens and in the New Meadowlands Stadium before the start of the 2010 season.
The removal of the old video boards at Gillette Stadium has already begun and the installation of the new ones is scheduled to be completed by mid-August.
