Hanley Ramirez Unapologetic for Effort Monday Night, Lashes Out at Manager A major league star can respond to getting benched in one of two ways. He can either understand the manager's point of view and accept the punishment, or he can flip out. It appears that Hanley Ramirez is choosing option B.

The All-Star shortstop of the Marlins was benched Monday night after manager Fredi Gonzalez deemed him to be loafing in the field. Though Ramirez did not speak to the media Monday night, when he saw he wasn't in the lineup for Tuesday afternoon's game, he had plenty to say.

"It's his team," Ramirez said, according to the Palm Beach Post. "He can do whatever he [expletive] wants. There's nothing I can do about it."

Ramirez then engaged in a somewhat awkward meeting with reporters, claiming he didn't know his manager by name, that he won't apologize to his teammates and that he was going as hard as he could during the play in question (you can watch the video and decide for yourself whether that's true).

Ramirez, who's batting .293 with seven homers and 20 RBIs this season, seemed to hint that he was hampered by a foul ball he took off his leg earlier in the game. He said that he didn't expect his manager to understand that.

"That's OK," Ramirez said. "He doesn't understand that. He never played in the big leagues."

On Tuesday afternoon, neither will Ramirez.
