The way the Red Sox season has been going so far, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Jeremy Hermida, the team’s fourth outfielder that has been filling in for the injured Jacoby Ellsbury, has come down with an injury himself.
Hermida took Saturday off and wasn’t in the starting lineup on Sunday to rest a tight left quad. This gave recent minor league call-up Darnell McDonald a pair of back-to-back starts in left field.
Ellsbury is still just hitting
off a tee and has yet to take live batting practice. He said Friday
that he was able to swing, run and throw and that it was his best day
yet as he recovers from hairline fractures in four ribs. Ellsbury has
been eligible to return from the DL since early in the week.
Center fielder Mike Cameron, out with a sports
hernia, was seen taking cuts in the batting cage before Saturday’s
game. He is eligible to return from the disabled list in early May.
Infielder Jed Lowrie has lost 10 pounds but is just about finished with his bout with mononucleoisis while pitcher Boof Bonser joined Triple-A Pawtucket earlier this week to begin his rehab stint with the PawSox.
