Daniel Nava stopped by Friday Night Fenway to discuss his whirlwind first week in the major leagues.
Nava became only the third player in major league history to hit a grand slam in his first at bat, and only the second player to do so on his first pitch.
The 27-year-old left fielder is hitting .444 (8-for18) with a home run, six RBIs and four doubles in five games on the season thus far.
“What I really wanted was just a shot. I said if I fall on my face, so be it. Just give me a shot. I just want to play,” he said about his roundabout trip to the big leagues.
And don’t expect Nava to make any unexpected, Manny-like trips into the Green Monster anytime soon.
“No shot, no shot. No, I’m not going anywhere,” he said.
