Rays outfielder Carl Crawford is a free agent after the season, and it’s unlikely that Tampa Bay will be able to afford the four-time All-Star.
The Angels, on the other hand, have plenty of money to spend on a big-name free agent.
And thanks to their center fielder, Torii Hunter, the recruiting process has already begun, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Hunter’s locker was right next to Crawford’s during Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Hunter’s home park, Angel Stadium, and he talked with his AL outfield companion about the prospects of coming to play in Anaheim.
"I've been playing eight years, so I know how nice it is here," Crawford said of Angel Stadium in Anaheim, according to the Times. "Torii just kind of reminds me sometimes."
Hunter, whose Angels enter the second half of the season down four-and-a-half games in the AL West, knows that a player like Crawford could help put the Halos back at the top of the division for years to come.
"He's going to make his own decision," Hunter said. "But I might make a couple of phone calls here and there."
