Report: Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Doesn’t Expect to Bring Back Pedro Martinez

Pedro Martinez might make another comeback in 2010, but it won’t be with the Phillies.

According to MLB.com Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki’s blog, Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. spoke with Martinez’s agent, Fernando Cuza, and apparently Martinez still has not thrown off a mound this summer.

"He hasn't gotten on a mound," Amaro told Zolecki. "Only Pedro could say when he'd be ready. I'm sure he knows, but I couldn't tell you."

Martinez and the Phillies initially had talks of reaching a deal in early June, but apparently, any progress being made on those discussions has fizzled.

If Martinez does decide to come back, the Red Sox – who have been snakebitten by injuries to their pitching staff all year – could be a potential suitor for the 38-year-old right-hander.
