Pedroia was a late scratch with a sore left foot for the game at Fenway, as he was originally in the lineup to start at second base and bat in the two spot. However, two hours before game time, Pedroia was scratched and replaced by Jed Lowrie.
"They [the doctors] won't let me go out there if it's hurting," Pedroia told reporters before Thursday's game. "Today it's pretty sore in the area where I broke it, so that's when you have to take a step back and get treatment and hopefully it's better tomorow."
The second baseman also told the media that he would rest the foot tonight, and hopefully wake up feeling better for Friday's series opener against Toronto.
"It's not fully healed, they [the doctors] told me that," Pedroia added. "The risk is better, that's why I'm able to play when I feel better. If I had tried to play two weeks ago the risk would've been a lot higher, I would have hurt myself more."
Pedroia had a hit and a walk on Wednesday night.
