Though Tom Brady still lacks a binding contract from the New England Patriots, his golf outing with team owner Robert Kraft at Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee, Mass., on Sunday is definitely a positive sign that things are moving forward.
NESN insider Shalise Manza Young was a special guest during Monday’s NESN Daily to provide the scoop on the outing, saying that there were definitely contract talks going on during the golf game. Former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson confirmed Young’s belief, saying Kraft invited him to a similar golf meeting during his contract year, and soon after, he came to an agreement with the team.
The segment also previewed the upcoming joint practices and preseason game between the Patriots and the New Orleans Saints, scheduled for Thursday. Johnson recalled a similar practice and game session with the New York Giants that was arranged during his playing days in New England. Johnson remembers it was an exciting time to hit some new bodies around before the regular season started.
“The intensity from the first weeks of camp is there,” Johnson recalled. “There’s probably been a lull in camp, and now you get some fresh bodies in there, someone else to hit.”
