Is the Rays Lineup Good Enough for Team to Make Deep Playoff Run? Nobody questions how good the Tampa Bay Rays' pitching is. They've got one of the best young staffs in the game that the Red Sox will see the best of this weekend. Their offense, though, is a different question.

The Rays have struggled at times to score runs this season. Their offense ranks fourth in all of baseball in runs, but has a worse batting average than 23 other teams. They have more walks than any other AL team, but they also top the league in strikeouts.

They are an inconsistent bunch to say the least. The fact that they've been no-hit twice this season illustrates that. And they should have been no-hit more. In fact, they're the first team since 1920 to be held to one hit or less five times in a season.

They say pitching wins in October. If that was entirely the case, the Rays would be looking pretty good. But the obvious fact remains that they will have to score at least a few runs at some point, something they've showed troubles with this year.
