The two teams will square off Thursday at Gillette Stadium in the preseason opener for both squads. The joint practices, however, mark the first time since 2001 that the Patriots have hosted joint practices.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees sees the practices as opportunities to get game-like preparation. And when you're able to do it against a team like the Patriots, that makes it even better.
"It's almost a little bit like game preparation," he said. "You approach each practice almost like it's somewhat of a game mentality.
"Any time you can come and practice against a team like the Patriots, who, you know, really you could call the team of the decade — their sustained level of success has been the envy of the whole league, including us — being able to come up here and get this kind of work agains them is great."
