BC Quarterback Chase Rettig Listed Day to Day With Ankle Injury Contrary to an earlier report stating Boston College quarterback Chase Rettig could miss the entire season due to an ankle injury, head coach Frank Spaziani has announced the freshman is day to day and will be re-evaluated later this week.

Rettig was injured in his collegiate debut against Notre Dame on Saturday, where the Eagles dropped a 31-13 matchup with the Fighting Irish. A hit early in the second quarter saw a Notre Dame defender slide into Rettig's ankle, and the starter limped off the field and stayed on the bench for the rest of the game.

"I'm pretty sure I was leaving the pocket and I did a spin move back," Rettig said, according to ESPN.com. "And I think a defender that was trailing me just slid into my ankle. It's tough to get in the game and have things start flowing and then you get pulled out. That's disappointing and hard to swallow."

The true freshman was named starter on Wednesday of last week, after veterans Dave Shinskie and Mike Marscovetra struggled in BC's previous outing against Virginia Tech on Sept. 25. Marscovetra replaced Rettig after he left the game in the second quarter.

Rettig rested the ankle on Sunday during the Eagles' practice, and the team has the day off on Monday. Spaziani did not indicate which day Rettig's ankle would be re-evaluated.

Before leaving the game against Notre Dame, Rettig completed 5 of 10 passes for 72 yards and threw a 58-yard touchdown.
