Does anyone have an answer for Michael Vick? I’m talking to you Bears, Giants, Falcons and Packers.
Vick now officially owns the team and city of Philadelphia after Monday night’s 59-28 rout of the Redskins. But can he own the NFC in the playoffs?
Green Bay (15.9 points allowed per game) and Chicago (16.2 points allowed per game) may have the No. 1 and No. 2 overall defenses, but they have yet to face the Eagles with Vick starting as Green Bay topped the Eagles in Week 1 when Kevin Kolb started.
The Giants, meanwhile, have given up the fewest overall yards in the NFL and are set to meet Vick on Sunday in what is sure to be a hard-fought battle for sole possession of first in the NFC East. The Giants failed to capitalize on a faltering Cowboys team this past week, prompting many to leave Big Blue out of the “elite” conversation.
The Bears are still holding onto first place in the NFC centralalong with the Packers. Chicago has struggled to find consistency on offense this season with the new marriage of Mike Martz and Jay Cutler, so any shootout with Vick and friends would be borderline impossible to overcome.
And then there are the Falcons.
A 7-2 record helps propel Vick’s former franchise to the top of the NFC power rankings this week. Their defense is ranked 17th overall, which obviously doesn’t bode well for a matchup with Vick. But, the Falcons do have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL, averaging 24.7 points per game – good for eighth overall in the league. They fall just behind the Giants and Eagles in overall points scored, with 222. Could Vick beat the Falcons in Atlanta in the playoffs?
Absolutely.
Vick showed he has regained his playmaking form on the regular season’s biggest . He beat a hated rival (and the quarterback he helped escort out of Philly) with incredible ease. If he meets Atlanta in January he will have no problem devouring them in Eagles green, despite Atlanta’s support during his trial.
If the Eagles can get through the NFC they will surely be met by one of the powerhouses in the AFC, the Jets or Patriots.
The Eagles charged up their city and the NFC on Monday night. If they can defeat the Giants and claim first in the NFC East they will indeed join the NFL’s elite.
