Flynn will be leading the 8-5 Packers in a must-win game at Gillette Stadium against the 11-2 New England Patriots, the best team in the AFC. Of late, the Patriots have been blowing teams out — but on the defensive side of the ball as much as on offense. They've allowed just 10 points in the past two weeks. Still, they aren't at full strength, and influential rookie corner Devin McCourty was forced out of last Sunday's win over the Bears with a rib injury.
He didn't practice on Wednesday, and has been limited since, but he is still hoping to go, according to ESPN.
"I'm feeling better. I think I showed yesterday that I was able to go out there and practice, and I'm practicing today," McCourty said Friday morning. "I always want to play, each Sunday. We don't get many opportunities to go out and play, so any time we do, I want to be out there."
If he doesn't play, Darius Butler and the newly acquired Chevis Jackson — who played with Flynn at LSU — would be enlisted in his place.
The Packers' offense struggled mightily against Detroit without Rodgers, meaning that it may be a good week for McCourty to rest unless the star quarterback can return.
As a rookie, McCourty is apt to lose a step as the season goes on, so given that he isn't 100 percent and that little is left to be decided this regular season, perhaps he should be given a few weeks off — whether or not he could go on Sunday.
Even without McCourty's six interceptions in the lineup, it' would still be hard to imagine the Patriots struggling to come up with interceptions against Flynn, Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne and Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the team's three remaining contests.
