Red Sox Home Opener Against Yankees Most Expensive Ticket Among All MLB Openers You can do a lot with $100 but one thing you can’t do is attend the Red Sox’ home opener against the Yankees this year if you’re looking to purchase a ticket from a secondary market.

According to seatgeek.com, Red Sox opening day at Fenway Park against the Yankees fetches the highest average ticket price among all team openers in the league, $249.91.

Both the home and away Red Sox openers rank in the top three — the highest average cost at $249.91 for the Fenway opener, and the third highest at $180.19 against the Rangers.

The second highest average ticket prices costs $208.66, a game in which the reigning World Series champions, San Francisco Giants, host Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals at AT&T Park — a $41.25 difference between the Red Sox home opener.

Referring to the ticket prices on seatgeek, 18 of the 30 team’s openers cost an average under $100. The bottom five lowest averages costs a total of $254.68. Given that, for an extra five dollars, a fan can attend the home openers of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels — not including traveling and other miscellaneous expenses — for the cost of the Red Sox home opener.

However, the high Red Sox prices can be attributed to the ridiculous demand from Red Sox Nation to attend games. Fenway Park has sold out more than 600 consecutive home games, and 100.9 percent of its tickets. On top of that, all stadiums last season that hosted the Red Sox sold 83.9 percent of its tickets. The only park to have sold a higher percent of its tickets is Citizens Bank Park, home of the the Philadelphia Phillies, at 103.5 percent and 89.6, respectively.
