What Is the Best NHL Team in the Eastern Conference? Even given Boston’s impressive winning streak, the Bruins are still just second in the Eastern Conference and are only six points above the sixth spot in the standings.

Clearly, race for best in the East is a tight one, and with home-ice in the playoffs hanging in the balance, the rest of the regular season couldn’t be more pivotal.

The Bruins took an important two points against the Lightning, but if the B’s fall to Pittsburgh, the Penguins will vault ahead of them in the standings. Thereafter, the Bruins will face Montreal, who remain eerily close behind in the Northeast Division despite Boston’s great run of performances.

Above each of the previous mentioned teams in the standings sit the Philadelphia Flyers, who have led the conference for much of the season. The defending East champions are outscoring everybody else in the conference with 205 goals thus far this season.

Then, of course, there are the Washington Capitals. While the Caps have underperformed this season, they’re still a team that nobody will want a part of come playoff time, considering how talented and explosive they are.
