"I just went to the basket and took off on my leg," Billups said after Sunday night's 87-85 loss at the TD Garden. "The doctors said it's a strain in my knee, my quad, the muscle that extends into my knee. It's just a strain. We'll check it out tomorrow. Hopefully I can get back as soon as possible."
Billups said he got hit in the left knee in Tuesday night's game against the Bulls, and he's been wearing a brace on that leg ever since. He took off on the leg with 50 seconds left in Sunday's Game 1, and the knee gave out on him.
He doesn't know yet if he'll be available for Game 2 on Tuesday night.
"I really don't have a clue," Billups said. "I'm a lot of pain right now, but that's to be expected. If I can get out there and help any, I'll be out there. We'll just have to see."
The Knicks have depth at the guard spots, with Toney Douglas available to slide into the starting five in Billups' place if necessary, but needless to say, they're hoping they can get Billups back as soon as possible. Having a Finals MVP on your side can never hurt.
"I saw him limping in the locker room, but he said he was cool," Carmelo Anthony said of Billups. "We'll see. We've got a day off tomorrow. It's playoff time. I'm pretty sure he'll be ready come next game."
