The team announced that they have come to terms with former Giants receiver Steve Smith on a one-year deal.
Of course, the Eagles will have to wait to heal a knee injury. He had microfracture surgery on his left knee in December.
If he can come back healthy, though, it would be an impressive addition for an already explosive offense. Eagles head coach Andy Reid loves to pass the football, and he and quarterback Michael Vick will have plenty of options to spread it around this fall. Smith will join DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant just to name a few in a potent aerial attack.
"He's a Pro Bowl quality receiver that we will work into our offense as soon as he is ready to go," Reid said. "We feel very good about our current group of receivers and Steve adds another dimension to that position. He's played very well against us in the past few years and we're happy to have him on board."
The 2007 second-round pick out of USC played in just nine games in 2010, but he had a career year the season before. Smith caught 107 passes for 1,220 yards in 2009 and added seven touchdowns in what has been far and away the best season of his career.
