Adrian Gonzalez was on a San Diego Padres team that struggled down the stretch in 2010 before eventually missing the playoffs. When he moved to the East Coast to join the Red Sox, that was supposed to be in the past.
Gonzalez talked about the Red Sox' historic collapse in the minutes following the shocking conclusion to the team's season, and while admitting that the Sox just didn't get the job done, he also said that injuries certainly played a part.
Had the Sox had the likes of Clay Buchholz, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Kevin Youkilis all season, Gonzalez said, they would have probably cruised into the playoffs.
"It''s always injuries," he explained. "Any team that doesn't make the playoffs and is supposed to, it's because of injuries. Plain and simple."
