John Lackey’s Calf Looks Colorful After Getting Struck by Line Drive, But Righty Expects to Be Ready for Next Start

John Lackey was limited to just three innings in his start on Friday night, mostly due to getting struck in the left calf by a line drive off the bat of Tampa's John Jaso.

Lackey doesn't expect to miss a start, although his calf features a lot of colors in the wake of the incident. Manager Terry Francona said on Friday that the right-hander was pretty sore and that his calf swelled up pretty good.

Francona also offered an update on Josh Beckett, whose injured ankle continues to improve. He said the next step will be for Beckett to throw a bullpen session, although the team is proceeding based on how Beckett feels each day.
